Principal’s Message- May 2017

Wow!  How quickly we have come to the end of another school year here at Joel P. Jensen Middle.  We appreciate your students and their hard work this year.  Looking at the last week, there are several calendar items that parents need to know about.  We have included a calendar and explanation below.  There is also important summer information included.  Thank you for all of your support throughout the year!

Monday 5/29 – Memorial Day (No School)

  • We will try something new this year, combining these assemblies.
    • 9th graders 2nd period 8:25-9:11
    • 8th graders 3rd period 9:55 – 10:38
    • 7th graders 4th period 10:45 – 11:28
  • We will only give out the awards for the grade level attending. In other words, 9th graders will not sit through the 8th and 7th grade awards.
  • We will dismiss to lunch or 5th after the 7th grade assembly and continue with the remainder of the day on a normal schedule.

  • Assembly schedule (A/B Assembly) for Fine Arts Assembly
  • We will then all go to third period, where we will be dismissing students to Field Day by grade.
  • We will get all the students out of the building for Field Day activities and then allow them come back in for lunch beginning at 11:15. Lunch will be a rolling lunch. It’ll be open for 30 minutes for kids to come in. Then we’ll stop the lines for about 15 minutes for the lunch ladies to get things prepared. We will then reopen it for another 30 minutes.
  • Field Day will run until 1:00.
  • We will then hand out Memory books in the gym.
  • Students will go home at 2:30.

THURSDAY 6/1 – LAGOON DAY (Freshmen)

  • 9th graders will come down to the Kiva at approximately 8:30 and watch the end of year video.
  • Then they will get on the buses around 9:00.
  • 7th and 8th graders will then head down to the KIVA to watch the video.
  • They will all return to their classes and we will continue out the school schedule.
  • All students will attend A lunch.
  • We do not send 9th graders home this day if they choose to not attend Lagoon. If they want to be here, they can, as it is a school day.
  • Our 9th graders will leave Lagoon at 5 p.m. They should arrive to the school by 6 p.m.  Be aware that the school will not be unlocked when students return.

FRIDAY 6/2 – HALF DAY (For 8th and 9th Only)

  • 7th graders have this day off, as they began the year a day early.
  • Students come to school at 7:30 (not 9:30).
  • Students will attend their morning classes.
  • Kickball Game at 10:30. Teachers vs. Students
  • Students go home at 11:30 to begin their summer vacation!
